    Default Night bite

I like night fishing. If the weather is decent, I am sure that I will be out during the midnight hours of the opener....

I plan on doing some of the nite thing but maybe not the opener. I always said why fish at nite when we can get them in the day. My buddie loves the nite fishing, thats what he does most.

Night bite might be off this season. At least where everyone trolls. Fish will be deeper. A few males might still be lurking in the shallows but I don't think it's gonna be everyone limits out bite. Gotta figure the water temp we have now is basically a month ahead of schedule. The spawn on Oneida and some other smaller lakes is well over with. What will be nice is those big slob females will be rested up and hungry. If there's bait on Seneca shoal, you can be sure it's gonna have eyes on it. Otherwise I'd look at the slag piles off the windmills. Emerging weedbeds. Or other places that hold bait. A jig and minnow is a great bait for weedbeds. Or it could be off bite from post spawn. Water temp is 45 at water intake. Gotta figure it's warmer in the shallows.

I love the night bite. It can really put you captain skills to the test. If the weather is right I will put in at hamburg and make a few passes.

What's your water temp at that end? Are you still hitting them shallow?

Copo, our season in still closed, it opens the first Saturday in May if Ny does anything smart is is closing our season from 3/15-the first Saturday in may. I wish all of the Lk. Erie states and provences closed the season during the spawn. Ok enough ranting, our temp. is 46° taken 30' down at the Buffalo water intake. Our day bite will start in late May or early June. Here is a link to our water temp reading. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/buf/laketemps/laketemps.php

I know and understand that. I've often wondered why all of lake Erie isn't closed to the spawn myself. Especially when a majoreity of the spawn takes pkace in the western half. My point of asking was know how for through the spawn they are compared to us. The water is not usually this warm already. Making me think the fish will be well into postspawn and moved deeper here by next week is all. We all know that fish spawn according to water temp. (Walleye between 40til 45) not by the month or day. I'm not trying to argue in any way, just gathering as much info as I can.
