Stopped by Hi Way bait yet afternoon to get some minnows. Asked about the walleye bite and they said limits were being caught between Mouse Island and Kellys. We headed out of West Harbor with my 12 year old to check the lake out. IT was pretty rough, but there were boats in close to East Harbor beach. We decided to stay close to shore and ran over to East Harbor to try for some panfish. WE fished maybe 400 yards off the boat ramp in the deeper water, in East Harbor and mustered just a few bites despite moving around a bit but could not get anything. WE were close to Cleats restaurant in East Harbor, so stopped in for something to eat. They offer free docking while you dine. ON the way back to West Harbor, I thought maybe we could fish close to the beach if the lake had settled down. We set up by the green can off the beach (is that West Harbor shoal?) and drifted west. Casting home made weight forward spinners in 19-24 feet of water we tipped the crawlers with minnows we had left over. We caught aggressive walleye, but they were all short. WE had fun, but caught nothing that we could take home.
