Went out this morning (Sunday) and started out on the east side of Kelleys in 38' of water. Caught a few small perch about 6" a couple of sheeps and 5 white perch. Moved close up by the Marblehead light house, the water was dirty and tons of boat traffic made it impossible to fish. Heard on the radio about people getting them off of the NW side of Kelleys so we ran out there. Again a bunch of small perch, sheepsheads, and white perch. We fished a total of about 3 hours and didn't catch a single perch big enough to keep. It was also very hot and the bugs were bad so we called it a day.

fished north east of the turn around bouy 7/3 - 7/5, limits all days w/3 on board. 7/3 - drifting 5 to 7 count gold blades, red beads, 7/4 & 7/5 trolling jet 20's and stingers 125 off small boards. Biggest fish 6 lbs, most 17 inches but plenty of 15 inches and smaller.
Fished Friday 1 mile east of the turn around bouy. Caught a 3 man limit casting gold blades and gold blades on bottom bouncers. Fished 4 hours. Also caught several fish 13"-15"
You talkn about turn around buoy of the shipping channel??? How far west is that from west sister?? Thanks and good job out there.
Yes - the turn around bouy at the end of the channel. Painted red, white and blue. Fishing coordinates of 48n & 10w. Casting to a 8 count. Bouncers on the bottom 1 crank up. Waves were 2-3 feet. fast drift. I was not using a drift sock. Found a small pod of fish and kept working them. 3 - 6 fish each time we drifted through the pod. Pod only about 1/4 mile wide
Fished B can for perch on 7/4. Two men took 30 perch in fishing on basically one pole due to equipment problems. Only fished for an hour and easily could have had our limit but went in b/c we had other things to do on the 4th.
Just desk top fishing, and I am trying to find these coordinates on the 14830 chart that you can view on line, I see west sister but dont have any numbers on the map that show the 68 n 10 w, so my question is , what are the numbers for a starting point like west sister and from there how can I measure the distance from that position to others so as to show where you are and where to go. or is there a better chart available for this ?
Check your PM's
Make sure your far enough west...Fished north of west sister on the same line between west and middle sister and didn't have the same success. Talked with a guy at the fish cleaning station who was out by you PZeiler.
Tuesday night the casting bite was on. 2 miles north of west sister. 30 walleye in 3 1/2 hours. Only 3 were 15"- 17". There rest were bigger up to 25". Several small ones caught also, even a few 6" ones. Gold hammered blades fished very slow near the bottom. Bite was on the swing of the lure.
When you say "gold hammered blades" do you mean worm harness? Sorry I'm new.:D
Homemade "weapons"
20" loop to hook
#2 hook
5 beads (clear green or yellow)
#5 deep cup Indiana hammerd blade
1 bead
Loop with bead to hold slip sinker on
Depends upon the drift - wind speed and waves along with what position on the boat you are fishing from as well as casting angle. I always carry 1/4 - 1 ounce egg sinkers. Most of the time I will use a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce. It is very rare that I use a 7/8 or 1 ounce. Only if I am fishing in heavy seas and need to get the lure down near the bottom and keep it there.
Tuesday night I was using a 5/8 ounce in 3-4 foot waves fishing out of the back of the boat. I had the guys fishing on the up wind side of the boat using 3/4 ounce. They could not stay near the bottom with a 5/8 ounce. The size of the blade will also make a difference as far as how much weight you will need to keep your lure at a certain depth. The bigger the blade, the heavier of a weight you will need to keep your lure down. The resistance of the bigger blade pulls the lure back up to the surface.
As I mentioned on the earlier post, the bite was on the "swing" of the lure - meaning that I would cast out at a 90 - 110 degree angle of the drift. I would let the lure sink to the bottom and then begin to slowly bring the lure in. As my line would begin to straighten out, the lure would pick up speed and this would trigger the bite.
Best advice - Keep trying different things if what you are using is not working.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Pzeiler!
Was out Thursday night. Rough water. A few sick crew members. Did catch fish. Kept 7. Same area as Tuesday night. Bite was extremely soft. More small ones than big ones. Fished 2 1/2 hours. Also caught the biggest sheephead of the year - 28" Ugly looking fish
Fished around turnaround buoy in morning. Caught 8 on yellow and gold weapons. All Fish 16-20 inches. Went back out in afternoon to North edge of island, about 3 miles west of island and Caught 6 more on green tiger colored weapons. One was 27.5 inches and 81/2 pounds. No junk fish at all.
Fished Sat. thru Mon. 7/11 to 7/14 out of turtle creek. Fished 1 to 2 miles N.E. of the turnaround Sat. and caught 11 eyes trolling harnesses behind jets. Most ran around 20 to 22 inches.
Sunday caught 9 eyes fishing 3 to 4 miles right out of turtle creek in 16 to 20 feet of water. Fish were smaller here.
Monday fished turnaround again and caught 17 behind the jets and harnesses.
Alot of reports in camp of guys fishing 16 feet of water out from Davis Besse and limiting on eyes. Mostly smaller fish. They are mainly trolling crankbaits.
Fished (casting) Tuesday 7/14 5:00 - 8:30. 3 miles north of west sister in 30 ft of water. Caught 18 walleye. All on the bottom. Copper and gold blade home made weapons with 5/8 ounce egg sinker. Water was a 2 ft chop. Cast out, count to 20, Reel 2-3 cranks, stop and drag bottom for 15 sec (add a slight jig to it) reel 2-3 cranks, stop and drag bottom, etc.... Still catching them on the swing of the lure. Bite is extremely weird. They are just grabbing it. More like waiting for a dead weight to be on your line. When your rod tip seems heavier, set the hook.
trolled tots 2.9 to 3'6 mph big boards 2.5 to 3.5 miles northwest of west sister 28 to 30 ft of water 100 to 130 back 4 man limit 3.7 hrs hot color green chrome blue chrome
Were you trolling them behind jets or just straight off the line? I assume a tot is a Hot N Tot correct? Which model do you use?(sorry I'm new):D
Also I here a lot of guys trolling Little Rippers. Do you know if they run the deep divers of the shallow model? I'd like to start trolling hard baits myself...just looking for some info. Thanks
trolled on 10 lb line bare no weight they were half ounce

3 man limit 21 ft of water same as yesterday 14 pounds 3-4 ft waves out of southwest fresh perch today for dinner yum yum
Fished a couple hours on Monday from 1030-1245. SW winds produced a drift .5-.7mph. We were a few miles offshore in 17-19 fow. We made 3 drifts and caught 3 small walleye 15.5-16.5 inches. We threw them back to grow for next year. We caught some sheep, one nice white bass and a 10 inch yellow perch. A fun day with my daughter and mother in law. All walleye were caught on green/yellow Erie dearie with a 5 count and pull, pause, reel retrieve. We were marking active fish on top 1/3 of water until 1130. Funny thing, gold Erie dearie didn't produce 1 fish with the same retrieve. Also tried a green/ yellow harness off the bottom and 1 sheephead. Minnows on a crappie rig produced the perch and white bass.
Great day to be out. One other observation, green algae is blooming all over the area.
tight lines,
Rickerd
