Lowrance Elite 7

Just purchased a Lowrance 7x and had 83/200 ducer installed according to factory specs. Boat is on trlr. in my drive waiting for launch. When I turn unit on-the depth reads 8.5 ft. The ducer is 2 ft. from the drive and exactly parallel. There is a keel adj. on the unit,but 6ft? Any help for correct reading? Thanks,getting ready for Geneva.

I could be wrong but I do believe the transducer has to be in the water to read the depth correctly and the 8.5 ft is a false reading. There is a way to offset the keel on most units. Maybe some one will help and chime in. But like I stated earlier the transducer has to have a good contact/submerged with/in water for it to work properly.
