For anyone that was out yesterday and experienced the conditions - I checked the Weather Buoy Readings for yesterday at 1:00 pm that said 1.6 ft wave height. If that was 1. 6 footers I wouldn't even experience 2.0 footers. I know that you have to double what they say for a crest to through reading but what the heck. I had to troll into them with my big engine. I was sitting in the passenger seat facing the stern and when we went down and up I was sliding off my seat. I think they were bigger than 3.2 footers.::
    What do you think?

The last few times out my Lowrance HDS5 Lake Insight was acting up. It wouldn't shut off. The next day I had to restart it several times to get it working. Saturday I tried restarting it 20 times and it wouldn't start. It would freeze up, start restarting, etc. anyways no go. I talked to Lowrance a few times during the week and they said I had an internal problem and offered an upgrade $$$$. Here we go. More money. My unit is four years old. Nothing lasts anymore. I used my Moore Sub Troll to get my speed on Sat. At least I have an option to go back on. I'll be calling Lowrance tomorrow to set something up. Oh boy.!!

Did you try to do hard reset & reboot it ? If you call lowrance ask if you can try that. Also try disconnecting the power for a .5 hr or so & then try a hard restart. Listen to me,(lol) I sound like an expert at this, & thats only because I had to go thru 4 elite 7's to find a good one so far. knock on wood!

    Default Humminbird!

Mine turned on and worked flawlessly this season. No issues. Probably should plug it in for updates one of these days

    Default Lake conditions

As a rule of thumb predominant winds around here are WSW. At what forecasted wind speeds from WSW do you know that wave heights will be too high to go out into Lake Erie from Buffalo?

I usually watch the leaves and the flags. Where I live. Flags are standing out. No go. Half out n it's probably Rollin. But I always check the wunderground and the buoy reports

I went out on Saturday 3pm-11pm, behind the windmills, caught 6, 3 sheep head, 2 12" perch, and a damn gobi which really doesn't count!
    No walleyes.
Ate the perch last night, they were delicious.

I also lost my first rig this weekend! A little discouraging.
I see people talking about the Seneca shoal, I know where it is but how far is that from NFTA harbor? I only have a 16 gallon tank, I don't want to get stranded, and the trolling motor would take hours to get back.

Does anyone know where I can get Navonics or Lake Master for a good price.
My 597 HD/DI combo has no contours.
I guess $600 doesn't deserve one of the most important features.

    Thanks

I have the NOAA app on my phone, and use the Port Colbourne buoy for reference.
I only have a 16' bayliner capri and I was able to rough it, 5 mph thru 3-4 footers two weeks ago.
We were taking on a lot of water over the front, making the bilge work pretty hard!
At this time that buoy was reading 12 knot constant wind, and 15 knot gusts.
I know now, I wont even try at anything above that.
You can also look at the NFTA boat harbor website and they have predicted weather on there and its usually pretty accurate.
